Al Gore - Useful Idiot?

February 17, 2006

We are at war. That may seem like an obvious statement to most but to people like Al Gore it doesn't seem to have registered. Take his recent comments during a speech in Saudi Arabia. While the mainstream press was fixated on Vice-President Dick Cheney's hunting accident, Gore told a mostly Saudi audience that Arabs in America post-9/11 had been “ indiscriminately rounded up, often on minor charges of overstaying a visa or not having a green card in proper order, and held in conditions that were just unforgivable.” Once again, Al Gore offered no evidence to back up his outrageous statements nor did he give any consideration as to what such statements might do to fan the flames of hatred against the United States abroad. Or did he? Given the volatile situation in the wake of the now-famous Danish cartoons, it's utterly unbelievable that a former vice-president of the United States would act so irresponsibly.

Was Al Gore aiding and abetting the enemy?

He most certainly was aiding the enemy. By throwing more gasoline on the fire in the way of inflammatory and unsubstantiated accusations, one of the most recognizable American politicians in the world could certainly not have been trying to help the American cause. As for ‘abetting,' that means to ‘encourage' or ‘help,' according to Webster's dictionary. Was Al Gore encouraging the terrorists and fanatics? You bet. Was he helping them? No doubt.

But let's look at the absurdity of his statements. First of all, Arabs have not been “indiscriminately rounded up.” Much to the contrary. Thanks to Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, we're not allowed to profile, even in airports, an important tool that would have stopped the hijackers on 9/11 before they ever boarded a plane.

Gore maintains that Arabs are detained on “often minor charges of overstaying a visa.” Minor charges? Has he forgotten that Mohamed Atta had overstayed his visa!?! Had our law enforcement off icials been communicating properly prior to 9/11, Atta would've been nabbed when he was stopped in Florida on a moving violation and cited for packing an invalid driver's license. Instead, the very next month, four months prior to leading the terrorist attacks against America, Atta legally obtained a Florida driver's license, despite the fact he was in this country illegally. Several of the other hijackers were also in this country illegally, having overstayed their visas. Are these the type of Arabs Al Gore is crying over?

Soldiers are dying in this war on terrorism. Meanwhile, Al Gore is flying all over the globe in a jet-fuel-guzzling jet warning of the apocalyptic dangers of global warming and wiping his feet on the American flag as he enters the very country that produced 15 of the 19 hijackers that killed over 3,000 of our countrymen. He ought to be ashamed of himself. It was his administration that “fast-tracked” Saudi visitors, so as not to offend the Saudi government. It was his administration that ignored the repeated warnings from the military's Able Danger program, which had identified Atta and several other “visitors” as terrorists. The Clinton-Gore justice department chose to ignore these warnings on the basis that the terrorists were in our country legally and we had no cause to harass them. A little leg work would have proved their status otherwise.

Now Al Gore trots the globe fomenting hatred for the United States all because he can't quite get over the fact that he lost the presidency in 2000. It was a close call but he was turned away at the White House door. We should all sigh a collective sigh of relief.
